Tailoring the Microstructure of Laser-Additive-Manufactured Titanium Aluminide Alloys via In Situ Alloying and Parameter Variation

Titanium aluminide (TiAl) alloys have emerged as promising materials for high-temperature applications due to their unique combination of strength, low density, and excellent oxidation resistance. However, the fabrication TiAl using conventional methods is challenging high melting points limited ductility. Selective laser (SLM), an additive manufacturing technique, offers a viable solution producing with intricate geometries potential tailoring microstructure. This study investigates effect in situ copper alloying multiple scans on microstructure mechanical properties TiAl-based fabricated SLM. The results demonstrate that enhances formation α2-Ti3Al phase, refines microstructure, improves alloys. Multiple allow creation distinct microstructural regions within single component, enabling are suitable specific operating conditions. findings provide valuable insights into optimization intermetallic diverse applications.
